Youthwaves Started in ST MARTIN in a small little town call Hammeau du pond In 1986 with five musicians , Patricio Piper , Pascal Adams , Sylvère Mingau ,Trevor Cassell and Alex Piper formed a friendship and decided to start what has become arguably St. Martin’s hottest band.
Initially, Youth Waves played mostly reggae music. However, St. Martin is known for its diverse culture being that the island is French and Dutch. Gradually, Youth Waves added Zouk , Soca , Calypso, and R&B to its repertoire. The blend of such genres of music gives Youth Waves a unique sound.
The band has performed in most of the Caribbean countries, Europe and America. France , Belgium , Holland , Detriot , Chicago and New York . In the islands , Guadeloupe , Martinique , Guyana , St Kitts , St Eustatia , Saba , Anguilla , Tortola , St Barths , Aruba Curacao , Bonaire , Dominica , Marie Galante and Les Saintes . One of their proud accomplishments was performing at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem and Waldorf Astoria in New York . France they did the Bataclan , Pointemp Bourge , Casino Deauville and in Belgium , Market Rock and antilliaanse feesten .
In They have also had the pleasure of performing with artists such as Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Krosfyah, Mary J Blige , Freddy Jackson , Tina Mary , Kassav , Shaggy , Nelly , Tanya St.Val to name a few.
Carnival is a staple in the Caribbean culture. Bands compete every year for the Road March Title, which is the song that is most popular during the carnival season. It is no surprise that Youth Waves has held that title three times. As well as, being Band of the Year and Best Band .
And through it all Youth Waves has been able to maintain three of its original members, brothers Patricio and Alex Piper and Sylvere Mingau. In addition to long time member Angel Richardson, who has been with the band for 20 years and Christine Gordon for maor than 10 years and Virginie Ferton round out the group.
